A 30-Day Checklist for Moving Houses in Dubai

Organizing a move in Dubai within 30 days requires staying ahead of local administrative approvals and utility transfers. Here is your week-by-week checklist to ensure a seamless transition.

Week 1: Logistics & Decluttering (Days 30–22)

  • Book Your Movers: Get 3 written quotes from licensed movers and confirm if they provide packing materials or full-service packing.
  • Declutter & Donate: Sort items by Keep, Sell, or Donate. Reducing item volume lowers moving quotes.
  • Review Tenancy Agreement: Check your current lease terms regarding notice periods and security deposit return requirements.

Week 2: Clearances & Registrations (Days 21–15)

  • Apply for Building NOCs: Request Move-Out/Move-In Non-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from your developer or building management (e.g., Emaar, Nakheel, Dubai Properties).
  • Register Ejari for New Property: Ensure your new tenancy contract is registered on Ejari to set up utilities and internet.
  • Notify Current Building Management: Reserve service elevators and parking bays for the moving truck on your selected date.

Week 3: Utility & Service Transfers (Days 14–8)

  • Schedule DEWA Transfer: Log into the DEWA portal to schedule move-out disconnection at your old place and move-in activation at the new address using your Ejari.
  • Transfer Telecom/Internet: Contact Etisalat or du to book a home move service date for your Wi-Fi and TV box installation.
  • Update District Cooling: If applicable (Empower, Palm District Cooling), submit final meter reading requests and open a new account.

Week 4: Final Prep & Moving Day (Days 7–1)

  • Pack an Essentials Box: Keep passports, Emirates IDs, tenancy contracts, jewelry, chargers, and basic toiletries with you personally.
  • Defrost & Clean: Empty and defrost the refrigerator/freezer 24 hours prior to moving day.
  • Conduct Final Inspection: Walk through the old property with your landlord/agent, document existing conditions with photos, and hand over the keys.
